Citrine is a yellow-to-golden member of the quartz mineral group
This is one of the most popular and easily available quartz gemstones.
Citrine has been called the “stone of the mind”. Ancient cultures believed that placing a citrine on the forehead of an elder would increase his psychic power.
Its name was derived from ‘citron’, a French word meaning ‘lemon’, although its colour tends to be more golden rather than lemon-yellow.
Natural citrine is actually quite rare and because it is more valuable than most other varieties of quartz, much of the citrine today is actually heat-treated to obtain its attractive golden color. Almost all heated citrine will exhibit reddish tints.
